After a two tour of Mehrangarh Fort, I packed my camera and just drove 1 km to reach this temple type structure, which is also mentioned as The Taj Mahal of Marwar – Jaswant Thada

I parked next to this magnificent statue of Rao Jodha (founder of Jodhpur) and paid Rs 30 to enter this white marble structure.

Story Behind Jaswant Thada

Jaswant Thada is actually a memorial house built by Maharaja Sardar Singh in 1899 AD, in the memory of Jaswant Singh II, his father.

Along with this Jaswant Thada is also a cremation ground for other royal family members of Marwar, a quite similar concept to Royal Gaitor in Jaipur.

The Structure of Jaswant Thada

With all respect to the dead, majority of travelers here are not to pay their respect to the rulers (you can, as I did), but to see the unimaginable stonework done here. So, instead of writing 1000 words, here is a collection of pictures which I have for you. Enjoy.

Jaswant Thada is also a very peaceful spot in Jodhpur, which is (not as Jaipur or Delhi) an urban city. I personally enjoyed the view of three cenotaphs, but the view of Mehrangarh Fort from here is also fantastic.
